OK. So i down loaded 32 on the other box, transferred it to this box (the other is downloading the 64 torrent and does not have space for both). Downloaded the .torrent file. They appear to have compatable file names, both are in the Desktop dirrectory.

Ah, I need to put the complete one in the stoner folder in the Desktop directory. Yup, it is seeeding. Damned slow though - 8 to 19Kb/s. Is there something I can try to set differently to improve this?

It is most likely due to a limit on your DSL. No worries mate as every kb counts. :st: Thanks for helping. :rocks:

That is what I figured. I have, I think as a Linux expert (used Ubuntu since 8-08), that I had configured everything that I could for speed. On the other hand, I have much less experience with "high" speed connections. This is the first time in my life I have had other than dial up. We have had this ADSL line for less than a month.

I have been studying DSL for about 3 months in anticipation of this connection but that is not experience.

Beleive it or not I only started using computers six years ago and Linux only 4 years ago. I have only got serious about it in the last 2 years. I learn quick and it helps asking a lot of questions. You may not know that much yet but in a short time you will feel like an expert. You just need to get the right info in the right way and it will stick and you will begin to get it. :st:

Yup. I did not realize how good I had gotten in win98 until recently. I kept that sucker ticking and secure with no updates from 98 to 08 (MB died on custom computer).

I learned that by using the Blacksmith method. Gee, I wonder what happens if I push this button now? Had 98 for a whole month before I had to reformat the HDD and reload everything. This causes you to learn in a hurry.

Linux is easier to learn because you can actually have some serious control. It is also easier to break.

i broke Hardy 5 times the first week. Probably could have been fixed but not by me. I reinstalled. This is not good if you actually want to use the box. That is when I dual booted Hardy/Hardy so that the wife and I had one main that I did nothing to until I tried it on the other install. Still do that.

I will say that I am pretty damned good at grub configuration and fixing. Fuck super grub disk, That is the kind of fix that you need with MS. Had the same general result as the stuff for MS too. Screwed my system. /boot/grub/menu.lst is easy to edit and faster than booting some 3rd party software.

That kind of control over your box is intoxicating. I love it.

I agree! Grub is easy to configure. Even if you don't know what the hell your doing, you can still load to GRUB upon boot and use the proccess of elimination on which hd and partition with which kernel. Now if you only have one hd then I suppose it would be damn near impossible to fuck up grub or have it configure wrong. Now, enter 3-4 hard drives with a couple os's on each .... this might tend to be a little confusing!!!!!
Time is to people, only what they conceive it as.

Yup, right now I am trying to cut back. I only have 3 each on 2 HDDs. There are 8 on the external and I have about that on another drive that I am going to reinstall as an internal.

I try to keep grub to just one drive at a time but i had an external that was funky and I had install / on one and /home on the other. Then found that toward the end of the drives they had to switch and boot the other way - wierd. That enclosure gave up the ghost. I need to get another one.

It is too much fun to play with different flavors.

Just curious. I saw the torrent on Demonoid and was wondering just what it was. As far as I can tell, and please correct me if I'm wrong, this is Ubuntu running Gnome and gdm with weed related graphics. Correct? Cool, cool...

I'm just wondering if it would have stoner based apps? Don't know what those would be but I'm curious anyways. I'm also wondering which repos there are. Do you use Ubuntu's or do you have your own? I've never used Ubuntu although I've heard it's a great distro for those just switching to GNU/Linux. (I just got to meet Richard Stallman the other day so now I'm using the correct term, GNU/Linux.) I'm currently running SUSE 11 (Been a SUSE user since SuSE 6.1 and a GNU/Linux user since Debian 1.3.1) on a couple boxes here with PCLOS 2009 on a couple more. I'd like to throw this on one of my SUSE boxes and give it a whirl but I'm still curious about a few things that I couldn't find the info for here....

Am I going to have to jump through hoops for M$ codecs and playing dvd's? How easy is the proprietary Nvidia drivers to install? Not that I'm afraid to drop to runlevel 3 and run the install from the bash prompt and tweek xorg.conf by hand, but it's sure nicer other ways. There's also the question of repos and updates. Is Gnome the only DE I can use? Then last, but certainly not least, at least not for me, does it include the source?

Like I said, jus' curious...............

Oops! Almost forgot. Is it easy to setup IP forwarding or do I need to act like a Slackware script jockey to get it working?

To be honest my friend, I always put home on a different partition or drive then my root partition. This makes upgrades way, way, way easier. Same for my ftp and www dirs.
